I II III IV V VI

In 2024, Neil Cavanagh announced the re-release of his 1994 album, “I II III IV V VI,” a collection of synthesizer-based instrumentals. This album, originally recorded and released on two cassette tapes three decades ago, was inspired by Brian Eno’s pioneering definition of ambient music. According to Eno, ambient music should be “as ignorable as it is interesting,” providing a backdrop that enhances various activities without necessarily demanding the listener’s attention. “I II III IV V VI” comprises six pieces, and spans over 100 minutes of music. Each track invites listeners to immerse themselves in a soundscape conducive to mindfulness, meditation, work, or sleep. The album’s serene and ever-evolving celestial architectures reflect an effort to create music that not only resonates with the spirit of the 1970s ambient movement but also offers utility in today’s fast-paced world.
